Gladys Mae Schneider
1929-2019
Gladys Mae Schneider, age 89, of Independence, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at her home.
Gladys was born on July 7, 1929 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Helen (Henry) and Kenneth Martin, and spent much of her youth in the Tampa, Florida area. Gladys moved to Fresno, California in the early 1950s, where she met the love of her life, Fred Schneider, and married him on January 7, 1956. For the next 57 years, Gladys lived in California, where she worked as a bank teller and the office manager at a dental office, and raised two sons and a daughter. After spending most of that time in Upland California, she moved to Lake Wildwood in Northern California in the 1990s to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. After Fred passed away in 2004, Gladys moved to San Mateo, where she became part of a new community at the Peninsula Regent.
In 2013, Gladys moved back to Florida to the same community as her son Ken. And just three months ago she moved with Ken to Independence, Kansas, once again to be closer to family.
Gladys enjoyed socializing with friends, playing cards, and cuddling with Buffy. But mostly she enjoyed spending time with her family. Gladys was the best Mom and grandmother anyone could ever ask for. She had an amazing light, and was a kind and giving person. Everyone who met her seemed to remember her and have something good to say her. Nothing can fill the hole she has left behind, and she was loved hugely and by many.
Gladys is survived and sadly missed by her son Ken (Keri) Schneider of Independence Kansas, her daughter Lori (Ken) Wilson of Half Moon Bay, California, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, her half-sister Betty James of Champagne, IL, and her faithful and loving dog Buffy.
The family will be holding a private celebration of life on what would have been her 90th birthday, July 7, at her home in Independence, Kansas.
The family of Gladys Schneider has entrusted the arrangement of her services to Zach and Dee Webb of locally-owned Zach Webb Family Funeral Service of Independence.
